Do Pilates and Yoga Change Daily Habits, Not Just Fitness?
After eight weeks, both Pilates and yoga groups reported healthier daily habits and better self-rated health than a non-exercising control group, with no difference between the two disciplines.
Pilates, Yoga, Lifestyle Medicine
Beyond flexibility and strength, does regularly practising Pilates or yoga actually change how people look after themselves day to day? This eight-week controlled study followed 90 adults split between a Pilates group, a yoga group, and a non-exercising control group, tracking both health-promoting lifestyle habits and self-rated health. Both the Pilates and yoga groups reported meaningfully healthier daily habits and better subjective health after the programme compared with the control group, with no significant difference between the two disciplines themselves, and no meaningful difference by gender. As a single study with a modest sample, this is best read as an interesting signal rather than proof, but it supports the idea that structured movement practices can shift daily habits, not only physical measurements.
